Welcome to the LeConte Science blog. This blog is to serve several purposes. First, to provide a means of communication and increase awareness with respect to 4th and 5th grade Science at LeConte. Second to provide another vehicle for students to notebook and share knowledge gained. In general, it is also intended to serve as an information resource, a means of communication, and an archive of student work.

Title: Water Organisms in Berkeley
Question: What kind of life forms are in our water?
Predictions:
Sink Water: No Life
Bay Water: A little bit of plant and animal life,
Coordineces Creek Water: Mostly plant life.
Aquatic Park Lake: Zooplankton
Materials
Slides and slide cover
Eosin and Methylene Blue (dye)
Water samples from Berkeley
Jars with lids
medicine droppers
toothpicks
Procedure
Collect water samples from four locations in containers. Use medicine droppers to place water sample on slide.
Use dye to help show organisms. Place under microscope at different magnification and observe.
Data/Observations
Sink water showed nothing.
Bay water had salt crystals when dry. Also small plant and animal life.
Creek water and Aquatic park water had roundish unidentified organisms.
Conclusion
Sink water showed no evidence of life. There was evidence of live organisms in other water sources but I could not identify the organisms.
